Yellow Branch Falls is a 50-foot cascade near Walhalla, SC. It’s practically across the street from Issaqueena Falls and Stumphouse Tunnel, so you could make a day of visiting attractions in the area. There is a parking lot with a privy and several tables and picnic areas. When you pull into the entryway, keep driving straight until you reach the lot. There is overflow parking on the right turn closest to the main road.
The out-and-back trail is 3 miles total and is pretty easy. The footpath is mostly wide and well-trod. There were kids everywhere on the day I visited, and I visited on a rainy day. I can’t imagine how crowded this place must be on a pretty day. So plan to get there early if you want some solitude.
There’s not much to say about the hike. Most of the walk is along flat ground with occasional roots. You cross a few streams. You’ll only have to get your feet wet if it has been raining and the water is very high. It’s mostly flat or rolling hills until you get close to the waterfall and then there are wooden steps.
The area is pretty muddy, which is heaven for mosquitos. Bring some bug spray.
There is spotty cell reception in the area, but you should get your navigation app up and running when you’re still in civilization.

This area is filled with waterfalls. Some have proper trailheads with parking lots and others are hidden gems just off forestry roads. I own and use this book to plan multi-site trips. The waterfalls are broken down by region, so it makes planning easy. I highly recommend it.
