Gear Review—Hiking shirt & shorts

I’m a big believer in the layering system when it comes to clothing on the trail. I typically wear the same base layers every time I hike. I’ve tried several different pieces of clothing, but I’ve settled on the shirt … Continued

Gear Review—Patagonia Men’s Houdini Wind Jacket

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Gear, Hiking | 0

The Patagonia Men’s Houdini Wind Jacket is not something I would normally purchase. In my mind, my raincoat is the windbreaking layer that I wear over merino wool t-shirts or other thermal layers. I dropped by an REI Garage Sale … Continued

Gear Review—How to layer clothing for low weight warmth

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Gear, Hiking, Opinion | 1

The challenge with long-distance hiking is that you have to carry everything you think you’ll need for your trip on your back. Typically, the heavier the pack, the harder the hiking. You soon discover that—with the exception of a few … Continued

Just finished a weekend camping trip in southern Colorado. We got to drive the famous #MillionDollarHighway and grab a beer and some BBQ in Silverton.
The #OurayPerimeterTrail was the most rewarding short hike I have ever done. You climb up into the mountains (often on the edge of a cliff) and walk completely around the entire valley town of Ouray. It was absolutely spectacular. The foliage was in peak colors and the temperature was perfect.
It's easy to see why Ouray is called the "Switzerland of the Americas." We got very lucky with this trip.
The next time we go, Jenny said that she will spend the morning at a day spa while I climb the #OurayViaFerrata. Click the hashtag to see what I'm talking about. 😉
