The Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve is a 100+ acre park atop Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado. Entry is free and the parking lot is large and paved. The site is for day-use only—the hours are listed as 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Preserve features two very easy hiking trails, a Nature Center, and the historic Boettcher Mansion.
Now over 100 years old, the Boettcher Mansion provides a rare combination of historic authenticity and modern amenities from its secluded setting inside the Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve in Golden, Colorado, only a half-hour drive west of Denver.

The trailheads are to the left of the mansion. The short (less than 2 miles), well-maintained pathways meander through forests and open meadows that form the summit of Lookout Mountain. The area is teeming with wildlife, so expect to see a deer or two.
This is a very family-friendly attraction that doubles as an educational opportunity if you visit the Nature Center and historic mansion. If you’re in the area, you may as well swing by the nearby Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave.
