There is a natural spring on the side of SC Highway 107 near Burrels Ford Road. It’s actually really popular. I drive by it when I’m exploring the Chattooga River and/or Mountain Rest wilderness area. There are usually several people filling up water jugs to take home.
I’m not sure if there’s really anything healthier about natural spring water, but it certainly tastes better than tap water in that it has no taste at all. I guess once you get used to cool, tasteless water, it’s hard to go back to the flouride-infused, treated stuff. Whenever I pass by, I make a point to stop and fill my water bottle. If only ice came out of the ground there as well.
This is near Big Bend Falls, King Creek Falls, Miuka Falls, Upper Whitewater Falls, Lower Whitewater Falls, Hiker’s Peril Falls, Bee Cove Falls, and is not too far from Silver Run Falls just across the state line in North Carolina.
If you’re interested in exploring the area, you should check out this book. It’s what I use to stitch together many of my trips.
