Coosa Backcountry Loop (12.9 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Backpacking, Georgia, Hiking, Loops, Trails | 0

The Coosa Backcountry Trail in Vogel State Park in northeast Georgia features a 12.9-mile loop. The park stresses that this shouldn’t be treated as a day-hike, but I disagree with that. The elevation is moderate-to-strenuous for seasoned hikers, but I … Continued

Coldspring Branch & Bill Kimball Loop (4.5 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Hiking, Loops, South Carolina, Trails | 0

I finally got around to hiking the 4½ mile Coldspring Branch/Bill Kimball loop at Caesars Head. The western trails at Caesars Head (Raven Cliff Falls, Gum Gap, Dismal Loop, and the Foothills Trail connector) seem to get more attention than … Continued

Panthertown Valley Loop (7 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Backpacking, Hiking, Loops, North Carolina, Trails, Waterfalls | 0

I don’t know how I’ve never been to Panthertown Valley before. It is a truly unique part of Nantahala National Forest that features a pretty extensive trail system. Best of all, the pathways intersect frequently, allowing you to stitch several … Continued

Burrells Ford Loop (12 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Backpacking, Hiking, Loops, North Carolina, South Carolina, Trails | 3

I’m calling this the Burrells Ford Loop since the hike begins and ends in the public parking lot and campgrounds on Burrells Ford Road. The loop combines stretches of the Foothills Trail, the East Fork Trail, and the Chattooga Trail. … Continued

Twin Falls Loop (Pisgah National Forest, 6.5 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Hiking, Loops, North Carolina, Trails, Waterfalls | 0

The Twin Falls area (not to be confused with Twin Falls in Pickens County, SC) features two 100-foot waterfalls that are very close to one another. The falls are in a well trafficked (but somewhat confusing) trail system in Pisgah … Continued

Cat Gap Loop (4.5 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Art Loeb Trail, Hiking, Loops, North Carolina, Trails | 0

Cat Gap Loop is a well-populated hiking trail in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, North Carolina. I dropped by the Sunday before Labor Day thinking that most tourists would be at one of the more popular trails in the area. … Continued

Daniel Ridge Falls Loop (4.5 miles)

by Chad Chandler | posted in: Hiking, Loops, North Carolina, Trails, Waterfalls | 0

Daniel Ridge Loop is one of the more enjoyable trails I’ve hiked in a while. The hike is in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, North Carolina. It didn’t hurt that the temperature dropped into the mid-60s, which is rare for … Continued

I did eight easy miles through the Pine Valley Ranch/Buffalo Creek Region this morning. I don't know how I've never been to this area. It's absolutely gorgeous and it seems like most people don't stray too far from the parking lot. I had the mountains practically to myself.

I’m playing around with a water bottle phone/camera stand and a new photo timer app for a trip I have coming up later this month. I still don’t have the settings dialed in. 🤔
